About Us

Our Role

Background

The Public Health Advisory Committee (PHAC) was established under the New Zealand Public Health and Disability Act 2000. It was set up as a sub-committee of the National Health Committee (NHC) and had its first meeting in August 2001. All of its members are also members of the National Health Committee appointed by the Minister of Health.

  • Factors influencing the health of people and communities
  • The promotion of public health
  • The monitoring of public health.

Themes running through PHAC projects include the wider determinants of health, reducing health inequalities, improving Māori health, and the need for intersectoral collaboration.
